On the occasion of the International Archives Day on 9 June 2016 and the 100 years’ anniversary of Lord Kitchener’s death, the State Archives shares on its website relevant records from the Secretariat Archives Collection. Between the years 1880-1883, Lord Kitchener, Director of Revenue Survey, undertakes the huge endeavour of surveying Cyprus. He dies as a hero of the First World War on 5 June 1916 on his way to Russia, when his ship sank after colliding with a German sea mine north of Scotland.
