The Cyprus Police is an independent service the establishment of which is provided for in the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus. The President of the Republic appoints the Chief of Police and the Deputy Chief of Police while the political responsibility for the Police and its relationship with the Council of Ministers, in the framework of the general governance of the country, lies with the Minister of Justice and Public Order.
The Minister of Justice and Public Order usually acts in relation to the Police administrative matters, through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
The Police Law and the Police Regulations issued by virtue of the Law provide for the Police duties, responsibilities and functions.
