The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Ionas Nicolaou, departs tomorrow, Wednesday 8th July, 2015, for Luxembourg, where he will participate in the Informal EU Council Meeting of Ministers for Justice and Home Affairs (9-10/7/2015).

In the framework of the Council’s deliberations, the reinforcement of cooperation between security and intelligence services, at a national, as well as at a European level, in the fight against terrorism will be discussed. In addition, the Council is going to elaborate on the protection of both citizens and information from attacks within the cyberspace, especially when these occur in crucial state infrastructures.

In addition, the proposal for a Directive on the fight against fraud to the Union’s financial interests by means of criminal law, and also the proposal for a Regulation on the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office that is going to handle such cases, are going to be discussed.

Furthermore, the Ministers are going to reflect on a revision of the Brussels II Regulation concerning jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement of judgments in matrimonial matters and matters of parental responsibility.

In the margins of the Council’s works, Mr. Nicolaou is going to have a meeting with the President of the European Court of Justice, Mr Vassilios Skouris.

The Minister returns to Cyprus on Saturday, 11th July.
