The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr Ionas Nicolaou, departs today for Luxembourg to participate in the proceedings of the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council, which will be held tomorrow, April 21st.

The Ministers are going to be informed about the Brussels terrorist attacks, following-up on the extraordinary ministerial meeting held on 24 March, in the aftermath of the attacks of the 22nd March 2016, when based on the Ministers’ Joint Declaration, has been decided that, inter alia, the systematic feedback, the consistent use, the interoperability of European and international databases in the areas of security, travel and migration are going to be reinforced, making use of the entire technological advancements, in such a way as to set guarantees for the protection of private life.

In the antiterrorist actions framework, the Ministers will exchange views aiming at the promotion of “smart solutions” on the complete management of the external borders and the reinforcement of the EU internal security.

Mr Nicolaou returns to Cyprus on Friday, April 22.
