CONFERENCES, SPEECHES, REPORTS
Among the responsibilities of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order for education, stimulation and mobilization of governmental bodies, private sectors and other social groups, several educational seminars are organized, regarding the prevention of criminality, the treatment and social rehabilitation of offenders and detainees.
During the last years the following Seminars had been organized:
A. Educational seminar on «Police and Citizens together on the Efforts of Combating Crime and Drugs».
The purpose of the seminar was to offer to the members of the Police information, knowledge and experience as far as the cooperation with the public is concerned, in order to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
B. Educational Seminar on « Alternative Measure to Imprisonment»
The purpose of the seminar was to enforce the work of the Committee introduced for correctional / disciplinary matters, regarding the subject of alternative sentences of imprisonment. The seminar was attended by officers of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, of the Prison Department, of the Welfare Office and of the Legal Service of the Republic.
C. International Conference on «Crime in Cyprus and ways of combating it».
The aim of the Conference was to present the real situation of crime in Cyprus, and compare it to other European countries. For this purpose, professors and experts from England, Greece, Malta and Cyprus were the key speakers. The seminar was attended by officers of the Prison Department, the Police, the Welfare Office, the Youth Board, the Law Office of the Republic etc.
D. Educational Seminar on Social Rehabilitation and Integration of Detainees.
The seminar was attended by officers of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Prison Department, the Police, of the Welfare Office, the Mental Health Services, the Youth Board, the Law Office of the Republic, the Cyprus Bar Association, the Cyprus Association of Welfare Officers, the Prison Board etc. The key speaker of the seminar was a British expert on prison matters.
