The Republic of Cyprus has acceded to the Convention on Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction signed in The Hague on 25.10.1980. For the implementation of the Convention, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order has been assigned as the Central Authority in the cooperation with the competent Central Authorities of other contacting states.
This Convention applies between the Republic of Cyprus and the states as shown below, for which Cyprus has declared that accepts their accession. website
The main provisions of the Convention are:
a) to ensure the immediate return of the child that were illegally moved or
detained in any of the contracting states and
b) to ensure that the right of custody and communication of the child based on the law of one contracting state are respected by other contracting states
