DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS, ANTI-CRIME AND CORRECTIONAL POLICY - GENDER VIOLENCE

The Division of Human Rights, Criminal and Correctional Policy was established by the Council of Ministers in replacement of the criminal research unit of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order. Its operational aim is to consistently promote the respect of human rights and implement the criminal and correctional policy.

Ensuring public order and the safety of citizens, the ongoing concern regarding the prevention of delinquent behaviour and the fight against criminality, the modernisation of our correctional system form overriding aims of the Ministry of Justice which are directly linked with the existence of an institutional framework for the universal respect of human rights and the accountability for those who violate them.

The division is responsible for the ongoing review and evaluation of the crime trends, the prevention and fight against criminality, the monitoring and quality assurance of current programmes, measures and frameworks regarding the issue of addressing criminality and the correctional and rehabilitative treatment of offenders aiming to affect their reintegration in society.
